Fati Attahiru is a Nigerian development practitioner, the wife to the late Chief Of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, and the National President of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA).

Education

She is a recipient of a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics from the University of Leicester. She is also a recipient of the Commonwealth Chevening Scholarship and holds a masters degree in Development Studies with specialization in Power, Participation and Social Change from the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex; an MSc in Information Technology, from Cranfield University, UK.

Career

Mrs. Fati Attahiru is an experienced development practitioner with over 20 years of experience. She is the National President of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), a philanthropic, non-governmental organization with the objectives of assisting the poor & needy and raising the standard of living in Nigerian Army barracks.

Prior to this position, she served as the Divisional Chairperson of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association 82 Division Nigerian Army. During her time as the Divisional Chairperson of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association, she established a fully-fledged Solar-powered ICT center for youths in the barracks; launched and set up the Barrack Investment Initiative Programme (BIIP) for six cooperatives, which has helped women engage in small-scale businesses. She initiated and implemented the Support Orphans and Widows (SOW) project, which provided revolving interest-free loans for small businesses and scholarships for orphans of army personnel amongst others.

She also once served as the Operations and Coordination Specialist at UNDP, she provided strategic programmatic and operational oversight for the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) North East program in Nigeria. She was instrumental in jointly organizing a high-level AU-LCBC Ministerial conference with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, managing responsible party agreements, drafting donor progress reports amongst others.

Mrs. Attahiru has championed many innovative paths, She built a reputation for developing business strategies and embracing the core values of integrity, innovation, and growth, which made her highly successful in prior roles held at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), British High Commission Nigeria, EDF Energy Limited UK, HSBC Bank Limited UK and more.

Personal Life

She was married to the late Nigerian Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru and they had three children.

Her husband died in a military air crash on the 21st of May, 2021.
