EPL: Wenger reacts as Emery strips Xhaka of Arsenal captaincy

Former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has spoken on Unai Emery’s decision, to remove Granit Xhaka as his captain.

Emery took the action, following Xhaka’s angry reaction to abuse from supporters, during their 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace last month.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been confirmed as the new skipper.

Wenger, speaking to beIN Sport, believes swift action was necessary to ensure the club continues to set the right example.

“You have to make as a manager these types of decisions.

“You face the unexpected as a manager and have to make quick decisions.

“I think Arsenal Football Club is respected all over the world because it’s built on values and everybody has to respect these values and the manager has to get them to be respected.

“Arsenal for me always had a touch of class and for me, football today in the modern era, has a huge responsibility on the way we behave, on the way we are examples or not and Arsenal is part of the big clubs in the world that has to show that,” Wenger said.

Pinnick reveals England-based player that will improve Super Eagles squad

The President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has said he will not relent in his efforts, to get Queens Park Rangers’ Ebere Eze to play for Nigeria.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Pinnick noted that the England U-21 player will improve the Super Eagles squad.

Eze was born in England to Nigerian parents but played twice for the Three Lions at Under-21 level in November.

But Pinnick wants Eze to switch allegiances to boost Nigeria’s midfield, ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

“We need to make a solid representation at Qatar 2022 and it starts with improving on your squad with quality players like Eze.

“Can you imagine a midfield with Ndidi, Aribo, Etebo and Eze? it is one that will improve our squad.

“I had a positive meeting with Ebere Eze in London and I spoke to his parents as well,” said Pinnick.

“He requested for the chance to continue to focus on his club career which is going well so far, and that further progress will be made in due course.

“But I am confidently hopeful that he will play for Nigeria soon,” he said.

EPL: Solskjaer dismisses Pogba’s availability for Man Utd’s clash with Tottenham

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has said Paul Pogba will not be available for Jose Mourinho’s Old Trafford return.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Solskjaer also revealed that Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic were “touch and go” for the game.

Pogba has not featured since the match against Arsenal in September due to an ankle injury and returned to the north-west at the end of last week, after a spell of rehabilitation in Miami.

“No. Paul’s not ready, no.

“He’s still a bit away but he’s working hard so let’s see. He’s out on the grass, so let’s see how long it will take,” Solskjaer said.

EPL: Mourinho’s Tottenham to battle Man United without four key players

Tottenham have confirmed that their manager, Jose Mourinho will be without four key players when they take on Manchester United in the Premier League on Wednesday night at Old Trafford due to injuries.

Tottenham made this known in a statement on their official website on Tuesday.

Mourinho’s men head to the game following a 3-2 victory over Bournemouth in their last encounter over the weekend.

“Four players remain sidelined ahead of Wednesday night’s trip to Old Trafford,” A club statement read.

“Ben Davies (ankle), Erik Lamela (hamstring), Hugo Lloris (elbow) and Michel Vorm (calf) are all continuing with their rehabilitation and won’t be available to face Manchester United.

“Kick-off on Wednesday evening is at 7.30pm.”
